 Tampere is a finnish city where is placed an innovative university school building having both art, design, and engineering related courses - the goal were the basicly sinergy, when mostly the conversation subject of engineers are about art and desing (specially when about industry, contents, etc.), and from artists and designers, the same about engineering when talking about manufactured products, materials, functionality, etc.
This project name is a hommage to this university, and seeking the same purpose in the open-source development world, getting the contact of both sides more closer.
The proprietary applications related to art-design-publishing-video-3d-etc are very known: Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Freehand, Quark XPress, AfterEffects, AutoCad, Maya, which has their open-source equivalents Gimp, Inkscape, Scribus, Jahshaka, QCad, Blender, etc.
These open-source art-design applications are getting to know as very powerful (and having its power constantly increasing), but still doesn't fits to artists-designers needs (specially the professional ones): there are no cmyk colour support (or the support is weak); doing a fast, accuraced and professional work with this kind of open-source application is still very difficult, etc.
This project is focusing to fix this lack, seeking testing and suggestions from the users (and who knows getting the users more closer to the development world, facilities and limitations), as well providing to the open-source developers a more clear idea of what this kind of open-source should have as feature, and on what and how these applications must be implemented.
Another purpose this project may have is to this sinergy being a start of inovative tools lots of people may want and there are no proprietary equivalents. Stuff like an accuraced vector drawing animator targetting video broadcast or 35mm output, based on, for example, Inkscape interface, using formats like svg (animated and file sequences), swf, allowing scripting, etc. (all those heavy and tricky things we can't imagine Macromedia Flash being able to do (specially crashing issues...) about professional-quality animation).
